A glass building on the falls......?????

I visited the Falls Leisure centre as part of my course 3weeks ago, and I was amazed by the whole project, it is a truly remarkable building. For anyone who des not know, falls road is a pretty harsh place and all the buildings on the road are built like fortresses and covered with grills. Its a hash environment for any building, stones are constantly battering the buildings.
So what do you do? Keep building fortresses....? Keep the cycle going? A year and a half ago the new falls road leisure centre opened and it is made entirely from glass!!!! A real positive move, to build something that could be completely destroyed in ten minutes, it made itself so vulnerable, it showed belief in the community, that they would look after it, it’s a community centre after all and so it they who will use it. But to go against all reason and be so positive is amazing. To build a glass house in such a place shows amazing foresight by the community leaders and a real strong desire to bring change to that area, giving people respect for there place and it says so much to that community. And in 18 months only 4 panes have been broken, amazing. It is an inspiring project. A call to be positive and not simply respond to attack by putting up walls.

>>the joys of Squatting

As of yet my the accommodation I was going to live in Belfast this year has not materialized [its not your fault pete!] so i find myself searching for a place to lay my weary brow....[though i live a mere 12 miles from the city] and so i discover to my great joy that the art college has at last allowed 24 hr uni! And so this opens up great opportunities! i find myself a nice 2m square un used room and start russeling up a few bits of furniture from around the college, most importantly the lockable cupboard found last wednesday night and quietly wheeled through the darkness to my room dodging patrolling security guards. and secondly a bed whipped up. so after a bit of carpentry the cupboard is fitted out and i now reside in the university of ulster, belfast, free rent and very close to the studio and extremely comfortable.......

I think the U2 album October actually sounds better IN october, its true, one of the few pieces of music I've heard that really sounds like what is called! Stand at any given Norn Iron window in october and listen to the song. Its a great time of year, with the leaves and the rain and the sharpness of the cold. Kingdoms rise and Kingdoms fall.

And the trees are stripped bare
Of all they wear
What do I care

And Kingdoms rise
And Kingdoms fall
But you go on...

...and on...
