New Farm House

We submitted a planning application for this replacement dwelling near Millisle recently. It is an exciting mix of contemporary living and traditional materials and style. The house is a Replacement farm house and will be a strong element on the landscape.

 CONCEPT

The proposed design has been developed from emulating the cluster of farm buildings. The farm is comprised of barrel vaulted and pitched roof buildings and have been orientated to the natural flow of the farm yard.

The proposed design seeks to extend this cluster of buildings and functions to create a new modern farmhouse. The design is comprised of three elements, the 'farmhouse', the 'barn' and the slate and glass 'link'. This has allowed a mix of tradition and modern living, while the farm house will still stand strong on the landscape the proposed scheme responds to modern family living.

ORIENTATION

The Scheme has been orientated to face south east with the main living space facing south west, this is a trade off between the traditional frontage of the 'farmhouse' and the environmental gains of a south facing glazed living area. The 'Barn' element has thus be orientated toward the farm yard, thus giving access to the yard while keeping the house away from the traffic and dangers of a working farm.

SITE

The proposed site allows great views to Scrabo and the Mournes while also working with the structure of the yard. The new site will allow a south facing aspect where currently none is available and allows environmental benefits such as solar gain and good solar panel positioning.

Folk on the Press

The Ulster folk on the press yesterday afternoon. The whole process takes little more than a couple of hours to run through, the design takes a little longer though! Its amazing to see it all in action, and the finished product at the end of the production line. Thanks to Spectator Newspapers for allowing me to take photos.

Two rolls of paper feed the machine.

The spreads roll through the various stages and are turned and split.

Getting close to the action!

The speed picks up as everything is set.

Constant adjustment and monitoring is required to keep the colours all aligned.

The papers emerge folded and ready for packing into bundels.

10,000 copies stacking up.

The finished product, in shops Thursday Morning 14th March, across Northern Ireland.
